Suishinish

After two days of working while it rained outside, today we got a gap in the weather so we walked to Suishinish, a ruined village cleared in the 1850s to make way for sheep, which were more profitable than crofters.

When we first left the house we encountered a local obstacle...

Add to the usual car problem - heeland coos.
Very hairy..... and magnificent horns...

Having negotiated the coos, we drove up our road a way to Kilbirnie, where we parked the car and walked to Suishinish around the coast.

The walk promised lovely views of the Cuillins

Suishinish is a sad place, with ruined houses and byres. This village and another up the coast were 'cleared' by the McDonald chief so he could run sheep.

One barn remains, for the sheep....

On the way back the weather had lifted a bit, so we could see something of the view...

We fetched up at 'Mrs Macs' - a cafe and fancy local food shop in a container on a farmer's lawn: if you have to put up with tourists, might as well make money!
