Today the weather had brightened up, so after lunch we set out to explore the hill behind our house, Aye Gill Pike.

We started at home (pink dot), went down to Cowgill, up the Cowgill Beck (above), around the side of the hill and then up to Snaizwold Fell and Rise Hill to Aye Gill Pike - and then straight down to Bank House (you can see the density of the lines...), and back along the road. A great walk with amazing views.

The bluebells are nearly finished, but we found a lovely drift on the way up to the fells....

Looking down on Cowgill Church - we get a lot higher than this...

Looking down towards the end of Dentdale - you can see two viaducts - the one on the left is Arten Gill and the one on the right is Dent Head - that's the one you've seen close ups of.

Close up made by miracle camera....

Up on the fells the grasses were flowering...even the grass is pretty

Pen-y-Ghent (where we saw the fell runners) off in the distance...

It was boggy up on the hill, but even the bog was flowering!

The nature of the fell: bog and moss....

More boggy flowers...

The stone fences were made of thin slices of rock, not cuboid bits...

A whole world in a mossy blob...

View to Whernside...

We reached the top, which has a trig point, used in the 1936 retriangulation of the UK.
They are iconic, and hill walkers collect them...

This is a flush plate - trig points that still have flush plates are prized by OS fan-nutters. Apparently many walkers are very keen on the OS as a thing, and love finding its bits. So to speak.

View out as far as the sea...

Dent from the top...

The weather was momentarily threatening, but we got away with it...

View to the mountains of the Lake District...

View up towards Deepdale, where we walked on our way down from Whernside...

Heading down to Dent....

Beautiful barn...

Can't resist another meadow shot...

Sheep of divers types....

And more meadow...this one at the bottom of our drive.

Only one more day here....it's gone so fast!
